Young Entrepreneurs

Alex (age 9) and Valentina (age 12) Vargas are young entrepreneurs on Hilton Head Island who are retailing their handmade creations — bracelets — at Binya! Binya is proud to support local makers and is always excited when it’s a good story to share with our audience. Aren’t the girls (and the bracelets) just adorable?

Alex will be in 5th grade this Fall and is into acting. Valentina will be in 7th grade and loves ballet and piano. Their main inspiration for creating the bracelets was to spread joy (and also, they were inspired by the word bracelets that have made it big during the Taylor Swift Eras Tour). “We like how we can make the bracelets say whatever makes people happy.” The bracelets have different color beads and also words. The ones retailed at Binya say, “Binya”, which in Gullah means, “Been here” referring to native Gullah islanders.

They are selling their bracelets at Island Child and Needlepoint Junction, both at The Village of Wexford, with other words and phrases. Their Island Child line of bracelets are stars, shells, and “HHI.”

It all came to be when Alex & Valentina’s Mom, Jennifer, was buying tomatoes at the Campbell’s Farm Stand for her tomato pies. Lola got to talking to the girls about their summer, their hobbies, and their need for summer spending money. The idea was born!

They are no secret to creative pursuits — like their Mom, Alex and Valentina love to bake. Alex makes cheesecake and cake pops, and Valentina loves to make homemade pop tarts. They admire their Mom and her friends with their jewelry and fashion and love the process of making bracelets.

The business does not yet have a name….. there are some early contenders but nothing official…. yet! Stay tuned.
