Feature- Gullah Heritage Tours

Binya’s owner, Lola Campbell, is on a mission to preserve the Gullah culture and the old Lowcountry ways. She’s not alone! So is her family and that’s where she draws a lot of inspiration. Lola’s uncle owns The Gullah Heritage Trail Tours which spreads awareness about Gullah history and culture through tours on Hilton Head Island.

These heritage tours are fun for the family and you! Adult fees are $42 each and children $20 each. This tour is a 2-hour narrated bus ride featuring Gullah people who are descendants of former slaves. The ride features many exiting learning opportunities, with some highlights being the Gullah Family Compounds, the Old Debarkation Point (used before the island’s connection to the mainland), and the Old One-room School House. At the halfway mark, you’ll have a 15-20 minute break to stroll the boardwalk to view the Atlantic if you so choose.

This tour is not only a wonderful way to learn about Hilton Head Island’s history, but a way to help preserve the Gullah heritage just as Lola’s family has been doing for the past 40 years. These tours help keep the Gullah heritage alive, and they help keep traditions that would otherwise be forgotten with modern advancements and time. The Lowcountry has more than amazing food, it also has an airtight community that sticks together, invites others to join, and never forgets their roots.

Here at Binya, we believe strongly in all things Gullah and this tour is top on our list for our followers and friends to experience.
