Children’s Book Feature

Parents, early enrichment is so important for a happy, healthy, and knowledge filled childhood. Kid’s love books with bright colors, pretty pictures, and most importantly, a fun story. Children thrive off of routine and habit, and often grow up to mimic these first routines with their own kids, or just in their daily practice. Make part of your routine book reading before bed, or book reading during snack time. Instead of watching shows while eating their snack, books can be equally as thrilling, and much more educational!

As a plus, we know finding books that relate to your kids can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be. At Binya, you can find children’s books where the kids look like your own kids, or simply remind them of their own heritage. Having a book that makes ties between what they know, and how they look, is a really great way to get a child excited about reading, and it also opens up a whole new concept of learning more about where they come from!

Binya is carrying the book My Trip to St. Helena Island by C.M. White. This book is a look into the rich and fruitful Gullah culture, and is told from a young one’s perspective to give your child a sense of relating to the storyteller! This beautiful book takes readers on a trip to St. Helena with the author, as you delve into lively photos, and stories about the experience.

As stated, reading is so important for a young mind to be exposed to, and travel books like this one offer an entirely new idea of the normal book your little one is used to. Travel children's books can help kids get a look into a huge and culturally diverse world around them, and offers in depth look at what life is like outside of their bubble. Having kids see different aspects of the world now, can teach them to relate to others when making new friends, speaking to people from different areas or from different cultures, or exposing them to where their family possibly came from. Not to mention the satisfaction from knowing your child is being taught while they have fun, and these lessons will stick with them as they grow.

Routines like reading a new book, learning about a new place, or trying new things, can really expand everyone’s mind, and you the parent may even learn things you didn’t know before! Books can promote quality time, the importance of learning more, and being culturally aware of everything else out there. The kids will find it fun, and may even have extra questions for you after you read, and you may walk away feeling like you not only helped your child, but helped yourself learn about a new place!

My Trip to St. Helena Island is available at the Binya store, and we highly recommend that you and your child give it a read or three!
