The Roving Oyster
The Roving Oyster is an art collection and business created by Melanie Dardani.
While on a stroll, Melanie came across blessing beads. She was inspired to make her own version that were affordable and handcrafted, and where she could exude positivity and love. When she saw that others were interested in her pieces, she learned how many doors this could open for her in the community. She thinks of her art as a way for her to keep grounding her own faith, as well as help others through hardships that they may face. She’s met some wonderful people along the way that she wouldn’t have without taking this leap, and she truly believes that these supportive and amazing people have made her life so filled with joy. This was less of a way to make money, and more of a way to spend time with her family.
Melanie left a full time job to spend more time with her children, and this new passion has allowed for just that. Her kids are able to help her find the shells for her pieces, and they also help clean them. They've begun to pick up on the happiness that this art brings her, and they sit by her side painting their own pieces while she works on hers.
Starting this venture meant so much more to her than she could’ve possibly imagined. She came into this with little idea of how she could make it work, but with help and support along the way she finds new meaning for doing what she does everyday. Melanie thanks her friend, Dana, for seeing this vision before Melanie knew it was even possible, and she hopes to meet more wonderful people in the community who see that vision as well.
Through Melanie’s path, she’s made her fair share of mistakes. She had a lot to learn when working with new mediums, and she also had a lot to learn when it came to being creative in general. She’s sure she’ll make tons of more mistakes along the way as she advances into new canvases, but with those mistakes come learning, growing, and accidents that turn into something beautiful. As Melanie finds her rhythm, and also sets to bigger horizons for future plans in a real brick and mortar store, she wants to thank everyone who took a chance on her work, and saw the beauty in her pieces that she couldn't even always see herself.
These works of art bring her happiness, peace, and comfort knowing that she can give back to others in her community. She has donated blessing beads and hopes to donate even more as time goes on. She has so much love for those that continue to spend their money, time, and effort in what she does, and she hopes for her customers to see big things from her in the near future.
Her new canvases are available at the Binya store now, and make for a perfect gift during the Christmas season.
