Just in! New African Kazuri Bead Jewelry

We are thrilled to be carrying Kazuri jewelry now! These pieces are hand painted, and really created with love. Kazuri, meaning “small and beautiful,” in Swahili, was created in 1975 in a tiny workshop experimenting with handmade beads. It was started by two single mothers who soon realized how many disadvantaged women surrounded their area. It is now composited of over 340 women in Kenya, Africa. The women make these beads with clay found on Mount Kenya and promise quality and beauty.

Workers are paid 3.5 times the average wage, so they can afford to support even their extended families. As members of the fair trade federation, Kazuri puts their workers first. The fair trade federation members pay equally to all their workers, and all pay is distributed in a timely and fair manner. These principles carry out into work ethic and treatment of their employees, which helps to alleviate poverty by creating longterm relationships with artisans and economically or socially marginalized farmers and artisans. In addition to this, they strive to ensure everything comes from sustainable supply chains.

Ethically, economically, and sustainably sourced, means peace and preservation in the company. It also means that though their business has grown exponentially, their values have never wavered. Feel good about owning handmade jewelry that you know connects with your own core values.
